Technical Proposal
The effect will be a scale model of a rocket that I will hang in front of a green screen and lift upwards using some fishing wire so that I can make it look like the rocket is taking off in a scene.
The effect is a crucial part of my trailers plot and it and would be the climax of the movie. The effect will show of the skills I have learnt in using miniature scale models and using them effectively to make them look like the real thing. The effect will leave the viewer in suspense as the rocket taking off suggests that the British (the bad guys in the movie) were successful in there mission to launch a rocket to colonize the moon.
That effect will work by using thin fishing fire attached to the nose of the model to hang a scale miniature of a model rocket that we will entirely create ourself's in front of a green screen and we will then pull the model rocket upwards to simulate the rockets take off. The fishing wire is thin another that it should not be able to be seen in the shot unless the shot is scrutinized. The background (location) will be added in editing and the effect of the rubble and debris being blown away by the rocket will be done on another green screen with sand/dust being blown on by a hair dryer directed straight down on the material to that the physics look accurate, this effect will then be placed under the rocket in the rocket take off scene.
For this effect to work we will need a green screen (green paper or card) to film in front of, sand or dust to simulate the rockets force as it take of and a hair dryer to actually blow the sand and dust to simulate the rocket take off.
This effect will not be very expensive and will only cost £5 to £10 as all we need to by are the materials needed to build the scale model (most of the materials for this we already own) and the sand / dust material we are going to be using. The rest of the materials like the hair dryer and screen screen we already own or can be sourced for free.
Low close up shots will be used as they will give the illusion that the scale model is the real size. We will also do a medium shot so that we can show of the location as well as the effect of the rocket blowing all the rubble and debris into the air which will make the shot more effective.
Although there is very little risk involved in the creation of this effect precautions can be taken to minimise/eliminate any risk. We will ensure that everyone close to the effect wears glasses to prevent the sand and dust that we will blow up into the air from landing into anyone eyes. We will also ensure that everyone is aware of the wire that will be on the ground when we are using the hair dryer so that none accidently trips over it.
